J.E. (June) Cumbey

J.E. (June) Cumbey was born on September 11, 1921 in Mounds, Oklahoma to John Marion & Della Myrtle (Butterworth) Cumbey. He passed from this life on October 14, 2006 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 85 years, 1 month & 3 days.

June's family was one of the founding families of Mounds, OK. He was a member of the 1939 graduating class of Mounds High School and he was proud to have lived virtually all of his life in the Mounds community. His working years were spent as a dairy and cattle farmer and he also would deliver milk for other area dairy farmers as well raise and bale hay for himself and many others. He was a longtime member of the Mounds United Methodist Church and served the church as Sunday School Superintendent for 35 years. For such a hard worker, his record as a volunteer was legendary. He was an active board member of the Farm Bureau for 57 years, a member of the Tulsa County Election Board for 46 years, served on the Rural Electric Cooperative Board for 30 years, the KAMO Rural Electric Board for 10 years and the Soil Conservation Board for 24 years. In addition to all of his hard work, he also found time to become an excellent golfer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 6 siblings. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Ivis Faye (McFadden) Cumbey, whom he married on June 1, 1945 in Shamrock, OK, as well as by 2 sons; Greg Cumbey and wife Pat of Round Lake, Illinois & Stephen Cumbey and wife Etta, of Muskogee, 3 daughters; Elaine Holtsclaw and husband Joe, of Bartlesville, Lyna Collins of Mounds & Kathy Jones and husband Roger of Mounds, 10 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Casket bearers are Todd Cumbey, Travis Cumbey, Greg Don Cumbey, Jerry Cumbey, Aaron Seago & Quinton Spradley. Honorary bearers are Ron Luebke, Roger Jones, Roy Ward, Joe Holtsclaw, Marion McFadden, Ryan Wright, Scott Hall & Cory Kapple.

Memorial donations may be made to the Mounds United Methodist Church or the Mounds Historical Society.
