MYRTLE CUMBEY
Myrtle Cumbey was born on October 6, 1923 in Alabam, Arkansas to Norman Hutton & Lydia (McChristian) Hutton. She passed from this life on July 19, 2010 at her home in Mounds, Oklahoma at the age of 86 years, 9 months & 13 days.
Myrtle had lived in the Mounds community since 1945. She retired after working many years for the Mounds Public Schools as a custodian and she also helped her husband operate their business, Cumbey's Garage for many years. She was a member of the Mounds First Baptist Church and would often serve the church by working youth camps and also assisted the Lions Club in many of their activities. When she was not working she enjoyed cooking, quilting, working in her flower beds and collecting. She had a collection of several hundred salt & pepper shakers that any collector would have to admire.
She married Willard T. "Bill" Cumbey on February 19, 1943 in Fayetteville, AR and after more than 60 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on October 3, 2003. She was also preceded by 4 brothers & 1 sister.
She is survived by 1 daughter; Billie Hensley and husband Bob, of Mounds, 1 son; Robert Cumbey of Mounds, 1 brother; Norman Hutton of Fayetteville, AR, 2 grandchildren; Bobby Hensley Jr. of Mounds & Elizabeth Hensley of Wewoka, 2 great-grandchildren; Megan & Lauren Hensley as well as several other relatives and friends.
Casket bearers are James Dooley, Mike Johnston, Dennis Duncan, Mike Keck, Jeff Culvert & Kenny Smith. Music will be provided by Kirk DeWees.
