Donald L. "Junkie" Smith
Donald L. "Junkie" Smith was born on September 8, 1937 in Leonard, Oklahoma. He passed from this life on September 12, 2006, 4 days after his 69th birthday.
"Junkie" had lived most of his life in the Leonard & Bixby communities. He served his community as a firefighter for 20 years before retiring in 1987. In addition, he also built swimming pools and worked in the construction industry for most of his life. He worked as a supervisor for the Blackie Dure Construction Co. for several years where he built cooling towers for nuclear power plants. When he was not working, he greatly enjoyed playing golf. He also loved to fly and was an accomplished pilot with his own plane for many years. His grandchildren were always very special to him and he loved spending time with each of them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rachel & Wesley Smith and 2 brothers; Lyle & Don Smith. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Jean (Willhite) Smith, whom he married on April 16, 1960 in Bixby, as well as by 1 son; Kelly Don Smith and wife Kristina, of Crestview, Florida, 1 daughter; Terry Smith of Turley, OK, 3 grandchildren; Zachary Dedman, Wesley Smith & Joshua Smith, 1 brother; Ronnie Smith of Leonard, 1 sister; Joanne Wade of Claremore, 1 step-brother; James Smith of Tulare, California, 2 aunts; Ann Biggs of Spavinaw, OK & Mary Terry of Bixby and many very good friends.
Casket bearers were members of the Bixby Fire Department. Service honors were provided by the Tulsa Fire Department Honor Guard. Music was provided by Leonard Crockett & Luther Metcalf.
