WYNEMA J. EDMONDS
Wynema Jean Edmonds was born on May 5, 1935 in Eram, Oklahoma, just west of the Eram School, to Blanche & Stonewall Schoonover. Although raised by her mother and stepfather Charles (Papa) Hitchcock, she remained close to her father for the remainder of his life. She passed from this life on January 16, 2011 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma at the age of 75 years, 8 months & 11 days.
Wynema was a devoted wife and mother. She and her husband Walter both worked for East Central Electric for many years. Wynema worked as a dispatcher and would accept customer payments while Walter worked the long days during the ice storms, tornadoes and other Oklahoma weather, sometimes around the clock. She always made sure he had hot food, dry clothes and a comfortable home waiting on him when he returned. During her life, she loved growing iris and raising her German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers. She was always very proud of her Cherokee heritage and enjoyed researching and gathering information about her family's genealogy. She greatly enjoyed her time as a fund-raiser and volunteer for the Bixby High School Band and particularly when she was working with her lifelong friend, Lylene Parrish. She also enjoyed remodeling houses with the rest of her family and it has been said that the Edmonds never bought a house without improving upon it. She also had very fond memories of camping with her lifelong friends and camping buddies, Duane & Mary. Family was always the most important thing in her life though and she will always be remembered for the importance she placed on Christmas, Thanksgiving and everyone's birthday.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of over 57 years, Walter, whom she married on October 6, 1953 in Morris, OK. She is also survived by 1 son; Steve Edmonds and wife Karla, of Bixby, 1 daughter; Valerie Brown and husband Jeff, of Bixby, 1 granddaughter; Amanda Ogden and husband Bill, her cousin; Mike Burnside of Morris, her cousin by marriage; Tony Monroe of Morris and several other relatives and good friends.
She was preceded in death by her cousin; Charlene Monroe.
Casket bearers are Luther Metcalf, Larry Edwards, Bud Six, Larry Poffen, Colin Kelley & Ed Peterson. Honorary bearers are the Bixby First Baptist Church Men's Adult I Sunday School Class.
