Cecil Hogan Holiman

Cecil Hogan Holiman was born on August 5, 1917 in Bluffton, Arkansas to Cecil & Ethel (Lazenby) Holiman, the fifth child in a family of nine children. He passed from this life on April 27, 2006 at his home in Bixby, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years, 8 months & 22 days.

Hogan farmed in the Leonard area until September 1945 when he went to work at the Stephenson Browne Lumber Company in Bixby. During his 44 years at the lumber company, he worked for five different owners. He retired in 1989 at the age of 72. Customers of the lumber company enjoyed Hogan for his kindness, good nature, honesty and efficient service.

Hogan joined the Bixby Methodist Church and was a good and faithful steward of the church. He served on the church's administrative board for 50 years, as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for 20 years, church treasurer for 7 years and was a church usher for over 40 years. His family will always remember him for his gentle goodness and love of family, church and gardening.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of almost 68 years, Ova (Brown) Holiman, whom he married on May 8, 1938 in Briggsville, Arkansas as well as by 2 daughters; Beverly Holiman of Bixby & Myrna Campbell of Tulsa, 2 grandsons; Dr. David Campbell of Athens, GA & Brent Campbell of New York City, 2 sisters; Irene Ferguson of Bixby and Mary Stewart and husband Herbert, of Hannibal, MO, 2 brothers; Homer B. Holiman and wife Geneva, of Chattanooga, TN & Ralph Holiman and wife Neola, of Kansas City, MO and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Cleat & J.M. Holiman and 2 sisters; Irmine Holiman & Erma Lee.

Casket bearers were Dee Compton, Don Driscoll, Leo Breashears, Bernie Reif, Sr., Art Smith & Ronald Phillips. Honorary bearers were Gary Anderson, Joe Gill, Bill Pittman & Dean Kaster. Music was provided by Michael Shimp & Cindy Foster. The family would also like to thank Vista Care Hospice and the Bixby Fire Department for their gentle care and concern for Hogan in his final days.
