DORIS LEE TOMES
Doris Lee Tomes was born on March 22, 1923 in Vinita, Oklahoma to Earl David Reed & Ethel (Chamberlain) Reed. She passed from this life on September 17, 2009 in Ramona, Oklahoma at the age of 86 years, 5 months & 26 days.
Doris had been a resident of the Bixby community since 1971 and had lived in Copan, Oklahoma prior to that. Although she worked earlier in life, she will be remembered as a devoted and loving homemaker. She was very active in the Bixby First United Methodist Church both in her Sunday School class as well as the Church Dinner committee. She was also involved in the Red Hat Society and was a member of the Green Thumb Club in Copan.
She married Virgil L. Tomes, Sr. on September 7, 1945 and after almost 58 years together, he preceded her in death on June 3, 2003. She was also preceded by 3 brothers; Bill, Lyle & Leo Reed.
She is survived by 2 sons; Virgil L. Tomes, Jr. and wife Twyla, of Jenks & Michael David Tomes I and wife Shirley, of Tulsa, 2 daughters; Terri Lee Woods and husband Josh, of Ramona & Paula Jean Rathbone of Bartlesville, 1 sister; Martha Sullins of Crocker, MO, 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and several other relatives and friends.
Casket bearers are Ron Casteel, Steve Foster, Ken Bond, Darrell Mullins, Jay Ward & Bernie Reif, Sr. Honorary bearers are Bill Davis, Dean Kaster & Carl Carnahan.
