JOSEPH CHARLES URBON
Joseph Charles Urbon was born on May 6, 1924 in Northampton, Massachusetts to Joseph Charles Urbon, Sr. & Mae (Shaw) Urbon. He passed from this life on September 23, 2009 in Claremore, Oklahoma at the age of 85 years, 4 months & 17 days.
Joe was proud to have served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II. After his military service, he began a long and distinguished career as an educator by teaching for a year in Hayes, Kansas. He then served the State of Arkansas for four years as the Agriculture Extension Sociologist Services Director for the University of Arkansas and then was a Sociology Professor for Northeastern State University for 18 years before retiring in 1986. In addition to his teaching career, Joe also served as a Baptist minister for many area churches in an interim, supply or bi-vocational capacity for many years in Kansas and Oklahoma and gave his last sermon in December of 2002 at the Baptist Church in Boynton, OK. When he was not working or preaching, Joe loved to garden, was an avid reader and play golf. His granddaughter, Susan will always fondly remember Joe taking her to Winchell's Donuts every Sunday after church.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 62 years, Luellen (Hogan) Urbon, whom he married on February 8, 1947 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by 1 son; David Urbon and wife Mary, of Bixby, 1 daughter; Nancy Beaver and husband John, of Ft. Gibson, OK, 1 brother; Peter Urbon of Desert Hot Springs, CA, 1 sister; Margaret Koelemij of Tallahassee, FL, 4 grandchildren; Susan Graham, Melissa Riggs, James Urbon & Joseph Urbon, 3 great-grandchildren; Wesley Graham, Autumn Riggs & Audrey Riggs as well as several other relatives and friends.
Music will be provided by Rev. Bobby Smith. Casket bearers are David Urbon, James Urbon, Joseph Urbon, John Beaver, Wesley Graham & David Riggs.
