CHARLES "C.D." WISE

Charles "C.D." Wise was born on July 14, 1925 in Paducah, Texas. His parents were Charles D. Wise, Sr. and Pansy Wise. He passed from this life on June 18, 2009 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years, 11 months & 4 days.

"C.D." was proud to have served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart from injuries he received during the Battle of Okinawa. He had lived in the community of Cyril for over 50 years where he owned and operated a grocery store from 1954 to 1963. He then began working for the Ft. Sill Commissary where he became Deputy Commissary Officer in 1969 and Commissary Officer in 1974. His commissary was honored as the best among 17 commissaries in the Midwest region in eight of nine years and won worldwide honors twice in 1977 and 1979. He also served the community by serving on the Cyril Town Council and School Board. He was very involved in the city beginning a cemetery and a local newspaper. He was a longtime, active member of the First Baptist Church in Cyril where he served as a deacon and was chairman of the building committee. He moved to the Mounds community 9 years ago and became a member of the Mounds First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 66 years, Ellen R. (Carr) Wise, whom he married on July 17, 1943 in Hollis, Oklahoma. He is also survived by 1 son; Jimmy Wise of Mounds, OK and 2 brothers; Byron Wise of Gause, Texas & Wayne Wise of Paris, Texas. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Sue Wise in 1980.

Honorary casket bearers are Homer Thompson, Shirley Perry, Perry Sutterfield, Don Boggs, David Ellis, Phil Hill, Tim Manning, Vel Dean Henry, Rayburn Teeter & Joe Young.
